Hudson Valley Topo

Site topography, delivered as CAD

Drop a site boundary. Get 1 ft contours, flood zones, soils and parcels in DXF.

Hudson Valley Topo turns a KMZ outline into a layered CAD package in your state plane zone, built from the latest USGS lidar, FEMA and NRCS data. A typical site is ready in about two minutes.

  1. 1

    Upload the boundary

A KMZ or KML polygon from Google Earth or your GIS. You see acreage and the elevation grid that will be used before anything runs.

  2. 2

    Confirm and run

The DEM is fetched, smoothed and traced into 1 ft contours. Flood zones, soils and parcels are pulled live and clipped to the site.

  3. 3

    Review on the map

Contours, flood zones, soils and parcels draw over streets or aerial imagery. Click any polygon for its attributes.

  4. 4

    Download

A layered DXF for AutoCAD or Civil 3D, plus a GeoPackage for QGIS and ArcGIS with the same layers.

Data sources

Three of the four layers are read live from the authoritative federal services at run time, so every package reflects the current release rather than a file someone downloaded last year.

Live

Elevation

USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), national 1 m lidar-derived DEM

Fetched for the buffered site, converted to US survey feet and smoothed with a one-cell circular mean before contouring at 1 ft, with majors every 5 ft.

  • 2 ft cells for sites up to a full 640 acre section
  • Larger sites use the finest cell size the service will deliver, and the run tells you so
Live

Flood zones

FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer, Flood Hazard Zones

Special flood hazard areas (A, AE, AH, AO, V, VE) and the 0.2 percent annual chance shaded X areas, each on its own DXF layer with zone, subtype, SFHA flag and static BFE as attributes.

Live

Soils

NRCS SSURGO via Soil Data Access, the service behind Web Soil Survey

Map unit polygons intersecting the site, labelled with the map unit symbol and carrying the full map unit name and key. Always the current SSURGO release.

By market

Parcels

State and county parcel fabric for each covered market

Parcel outlines labelled with the local parcel identifier, with address and county stored as attributes on each polygon.

New York. NYS Tax Parcels Public: 38 of 62 counties, including Ulster, Orange, Putnam, Greene, Sullivan, Rockland, Westchester, Albany and Rensselaer. Dutchess, Columbia, Saratoga and Schenectady do not yet release parcels to the state.

Texas Panhandle (test area). Potter and Randall appraisal district parcels, staged locally.

What you get

Everything is delivered in NAD83 state plane, US survey feet, in the zone for the site (NAD83 / New York Central (ftUS); NAD83 / New York East (ftUS); NAD83 / New York Long Island (ftUS); NAD83 / New York West (ftUS); NAD83 / Texas North (ftUS)), ready to insert into a project drawing without transformation.

Also in every package: a GeoPackage with the same layers for QGIS or ArcGIS, a run manifest with acreage, elevation range and feature counts, and the smoothed DEM the contours were traced from.
Large sites. Full 2 ft elevation detail is available up to about a section. Above that the grid is coarsened just enough to fit the elevation service, the map shows you the cell size used, and the warning is stored with the run.
